Hi my friends!
(Topic for Aug. 23rd, 2009)

This week we will talk about Phu Quoc Special Food such as fish sauce, pepper, dried seafood, "sim" wine, Bien Mai Scallop, etc.
Do you know which ways the local people use to produce them?
Can you show us some factories or shops in Phu Quoc where we can buy these products with suitable price and high quality?,etc.

It's just some our suggestion. You can present anything related to our topic.

Note:
- special food: đặc sản
- fish sauce: nước mắm
- pepper: tiêu
- dried seafood: khô hải sản
- "sim" wine: rượu sim
- Bien Mai scallop: còi Biên Mai
- factory: cơ sở, nhà máy, xí nghiệp
- shop: cửa hiệu, cửa tiệm
- suitable: hợp lý
- price: giá cả
- high quality: chất lượng cao

Thanks a lot!
Nice day to you!!!

==============================================
Welcome to PHU QUOC English Speaking Club (PQESC) Please read the following and exchange your ideas with other members.

Have you ever thought how to repay your parents?
We know our parents had sacrificed a lot for us from the time we born on the earth. Perhaps they don't want us to do something similar to pay back them, because the only wish of them is to create a happy future and life to us. However, there are some guys ill-treat their parents in the daily life. We must disdain this kind of behavior and do something to against that. Then, I want to leave you a question:

How about your attitude to your parents now and in the future?

A:I do love my parents much. I am going home to visit them with a lot of presents.

B:I do not think it is enough to visit them with a lot of presents. The gifts or expensive presents have values but your love for your parents is invaluable!!!
Filial piety is more than visiting them with a lot of presents .Stay with them as much as possible, chat with them, when they are ill, take care of them yourself!!!
When your parents are too old to eat themselves or when they can not look after themselves, you feed suitable food to them , put on clothes for them ,wash their feet for them each day !!!

C:I have never thought about that before though I know I love my parents. I even never say I love them, maybe that is what our Vietnamese people's characteristics are, a little bit shy, not good at expressing their feelings, especially to those who are close to us.like mom, dad, bros and sisters. To repay our parents? like you said they would never ask for that repay but give their care as well as endless love to us without measure. What i want to do is very simple.Take care of myself and do whatever I can to make them live happily and make sure there is no need to worry about me and my life any more

Phu Quoc Environment
Phu Quoc considered as an emerald island. Day by day there are a lot of tourists all over the world come to. However, in recent years, the problem of environment pollution has become a serious one in cities in the world, in genaral and in Phu Quoc island (even it's not a big city), in particular.

So, the big problem now is that how to protect our PQ environment from the pollutions. What are the reasons that make PQ more and more polluted?. According to the experts, there are some main reasons.
Nowadays pollutation density in PQ is fairly higher before, so domesic waste is the first reason. Then many people's social consciousness is not high, they easily throw rubbish on the street, on the beach and on the water, we can see some very uncultured people "make water" in the public place.the way to go around the island is muddy in rainning season and dusty in dry season, sea and forest are being draining ...ect.,
Infact, to protect the environment in PQ is a big hot prolem now that requires all PQ citizens as well as the tourists to be aware of keeping PQ enviroment fresher, cleaner and keep its nature beauty forever.

So, we have some questions for our discussion about this topịc:

* In your opinion, what is the most serious reason leading to PQ environmental pollution?

* Could you give the harmful effects that environmental pollution exerts on people's health?

* Could you suggest some good ways to prevent the environmental pollution on Phu Quoc island, do you think what the government should do now?

Why do you learn English?
It can’t be denied that today English is the most international language in the world. It has been used in all fields of the public activity.
Everywhere people speak English. Because of it popularity, many books of different subjects such as science , technology, tourism, economy, geology, politics and education have been written in English.
There is no doubt that during the last decade the movement of learning English in the whole country has become so popular that many people can’t find themselves out-stander. Regardless of time and money, all classes rush to different English language centers to learn it with the hope of being capable of using it for such different goals as widening their knowledge, getting jobs in foreign companies, going abroad, studying scientific materials or accessing the internet. It is so important and popular that it becomes a compulsory subject for students at schools and universities in our country.
In other words, lot of good opportunities are available for learners once they have acquired fairly good English. Therefore, the number of english learners is on the increase. Yes. It may be a good sign and deserved encouragement because our government’s intention is to increase international cooperation and understanding.
In short, English is one of the best ways for us to approach modern science and advanced technology. However, how we study English efficiently in the shortest time is a matter for us to discuss

Questions for this topic:
1. What do you expect from your English? Please tell me your main purposes and motivations?
2. What do you think about teaching and learning English in our country now? What are advantages and disadvantages?
3. Have you got any difficulties when you are learning English? If yes, how do you overcome your difficulties?
4. Among four skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing, Which one do you think is the most important and difficult?
5. Please share your own experience in learning English with me and tell me the best way to improve each skill?
6. How do you improve your speaking skills? Do you think joining English speaking Club is one the best ways to improve it?
7. What can you derive from your study?what is the importance of English language when it is used as an international language?
8. In addition to your professional qualifications, is it necessary that a certificate of English should be included?
9. How can the English ability help your work and your study?
10.What conclusion can you draw from our today’s discussion?

VIETNAMESE MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL

The Vietnamese Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most exciting and popular holidays for Vietnamese families. It’s also called the “Children’s Festival” and it’s celebrated when the moon is the brightest and roundest in the fall. It is held on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month. Parents use this holiday as an opportunity to show their love and appreciation for their kids.

The Mid-Autumn festival is nearly coming to us. We, especially children, welcome the festival every year but do you know any information about it?

The Mid-Autumn festival has only at the Orient, especially 4 countries: Vietnam, China, South Korea, and Japan. However, Vietnamese and Chinese organize a similar Mid-Autumn and are directed toward more children. Many stories record that Vietnamese Mid-autumn festival rose from Chinese. That matter can be correct because Vietnamese was dominated by Chinese a thousand of years ago; Chinese custom is nearly embedded for Vietnamese culture. Nevertheless, Vietnamese Mid-Autumn brings an individual nuance, especially the August revolution later; Uncle Ho took Mid-Autumn as a Festival for children.

It is only some short information about the Mid-Autumn Festival. We are going to discuss together about more useful information. Here we have some suggestion questions:

1. Can you tell interesting fairy tales about the Mid-Autumn festival such as “Ca Chep Hoa Rong” (the carp transformed itself into the dragon) and “Chu Cuoi va Chi Hang”?
2. Which activities do Vietnamese as well as children often play on this festival in Vietnam and particularly in your hometown?
3. Can you share the way to make paper lanterns and to choose delicious moon cakes with us if you have experience in the field?

Vocabularies:
- lunar: âm lịch
- appreciation: sự cảm kích
- the Orient: những nước ở Phương Đông
- rose from: (rise/rose/risen) bắt nguồn
- dominate: đô hộ
- embed: gắn với
- nuance: sắc thái
- revolution: cách mạng
- fairy tale: chuyện cổ tích
- carp: cá chép
- dragon: rồng
- lantern: lồng đèn
- delicious: ngon, đậm đà

On the occasion of this Mid-Autumn, I have an interesting plan that I will make a very big lantern within the candle light to floating it on the Dương Đông river. So if you are interesting to my idea, please feel free to contact me.

Nevertheless, Do not spam my phone please..thanks

MONEY AND EFFECTS

Money plays an important part in our lives. In truth, it is one of the most important things in our life.
Without money we could not buy our food, clothes and all the other things that we need to live. We need money to travel, to buy medicine, and also to pay for the services. So, many of us want to have as much money as possible.
We use money not only to meet the basic needs of life but also to pay for our own promotion. We use it for education which helps us to live a better life. Thousands of students are unable to attend school or continue their studies because of being lack of money. This also causes great difficulties and sorrows for hundreds of families. Thousands of people are dying everyday all over the world because they are not able to pay for healthcare fee or food.
As money is so important, many people run after it. Many people work many deadly hours to earn it. Others do not spare any cheats to get it. Children kill their fathers; brothers and sisters fight with each other to inherit the family’s property. Many crimes are committed every in all parts of the world to have money. Burglars, robbers, smugglers, prostitutes, deceivers… are very popular now. They cause much trouble and unpleasantness to the society. Moreover, because of money, many parents have no time to take care of their children: as the result, their children become corrupted. At the same time, money makes countries in the world fight together. This has led to chaos in several parts of the world.
All this shows an important part money plays in human affairs. And what do you think of money? Let’s join today’s discussion.

Questions for Discussion

1. What do you think of some marriages and close relationships that are based on money?there is a saying, “When the money goes out from the window, the love goes out through the door”. It is correct?
2. Can we buy everything with money? According to you, how important is money in your life?
3. Is it right to say, “Money is a means to get promotion”? Can money bring you happiness? Why?
4. Do you sometimes borrow money from your friends? And do you pay it back?
5. What would be your behavior when the beggar asks you for money? Do you think “ Money is the root of all evils”?
6. It is said that, “Money is power”. Is it right? Do you think money control nearly all fields in your life now?
7. What do you do to earn for living? What your income? Is it enough for you? Are you in debt? How deeply?
8. What are your fixed expenses ( rent, telephone bills, car payment)? Do you think you spend too much?
9. After paying all expenses in your daily activities, how much can you save? What are you long – term goals to use your saving?
10. Financial advisors suggest to keep just one or two credit cards and charge only what you can pay off completely each month. What do you think?
11. Why do many people now want to have a lot of money? Is success measured in terms of the money you earn? Do you think that the more money you get, the more respect you have?

Hi my cute friends,
